We love nothing more than to nurture our inner foodies, so when we heard about all the new food and beverage offerings for Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure, we knew it was time for a food crawl.
In one blissful afternoon, we sampled every single item on the Summer of Heroes menu. It turns out, they’re as delicious as they are Instagrammable! And they’re very Instagrammable. We ‘grammed them all on @DisneyFood, our new insta which you should totally follow if you like Disney and food. Chef Toby, who created the Summer of Heroes menu, generously guided us through our food journey. This is how it went down:
We started off by getting Groot Sippers, which are as adorable as they sound and will make you the envy of all your fellow Park-goers. You can pick these up at select Quick Service Restaurants.
Then we headed to Knowhere Eats for Obviously Nachos, named in honor of Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. These are chicken nachos with blue corn tortilla chips, red pepper cheese sauce, mojo chicken, chipotle crema, and green onions. Behold their glory:
Next up, we sampled The Most Dangerous Tacos in the Galaxy, named so for Gamora. These beauties feature barbacoa beef, green onion slaw, and habanero salsa.
There are two pitas available at Studio Catering Truck, both solid vegetarian options: the Savory Strength Falafel Pita, which has spinach, cucumber slaw, and spiced yogurt sauce, and the Promising Future Falafel Pita, which has red and gold slaw made of pickled red cabbage and yellow bell peppers, topped off with chermoula sauce. The Promising Future Falafel Pita is also vegan!
We also loved the Studio Catering Truck’s Super Hero-Sized Sub, which is a footlong on a hoagie roll, creamy dressing, mortadella, salami, capicola, provolone, shredded lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini, pickled onions, and red wine vinaigrette. This is the part where we tell you that there were, like, five of us sharing all these things.
By this point we were getting pretty full, but we weren’t about to skip dessert. Over at Bifrosties, we tried different flavors of vanilla ice cream-topped shaved ice: Spinal Fluid (banana, mango, and tajin), Spider Venom (blue raspberry, cherry, and condensed milk), Whistle Blue (lime and blue raspberry), and I am Shave Ice (root beer with vanilla). Look how pretty they are! These are super refreshing treats for a summer day at the parks.
You can also get Ice Reactor (strawberry and banana) and Smash Ice (lime and grape).
Chef Toby then introduced us to the genius invention of funnel cake fries, which can be found at Award Weiners and come in two forms: Quiver of Funnel Cake Fries with chocolate dipping sauce, and Angry Little Pudding Cup, which is funnel cake fries, chocolate pudding with crumbled chocolate cookies, and whipped cream. 12/10 recommend.
Then we all split one Cream Multiverse Parfait from Studio Catering Truck, which features layered chocolate mousse. So many layers, so much goodness.
By this point we had admittedly sampled a lot of sugar, but for science, we plowed onward to Schmoozies. Behold the Gamma-Size Doughnut with blackberry and black currant filling (weighing in at a full pound), the All-American Doughnut, which has apple filling and streusel topping, and the Spider Bite, which is cinnamon.
Bonus BTS of us documenting it for the ‘gram:
There’s also the Local Favorite, which is a maple cream and bacon Groot-themed donut!
We all absolutely loved the Friendly Neighborhood Macaron, which is a vanilla ice cream sandwich with macarons. Genius.
On top of all the food and desserts, you can pick up some truly delicious Summer of Heroes bevs. There’s Sol-Horchata at Knowhere Eats, and at Studio Catering Truck you can grab a Cherry Necroblaster (cherry Coke slush) and the Milano, which is this gorgeous Fanta Orange Freeze and whipped cream concoction:
We all loved the yummy and refreshing Infinity-Ade at Schmoozies, which is lavender lemonade with one of those light-up glow cubes.
Last but not least, our fair prince, the famed Groot bread at Fairfax Market. It’s sourdough, and you can get it plain or in jalapeño cheddar form. We have never loved bread more.
After all this, we agreed we’d never be hungry again, and then went home and ate dinner. A final shout-out to Chef Toby for the most magical Disney Parks food adventure ever.
