We’ve celebrated many birthdays at the Disneyland Resort over the past 10 years. Somehow, though, my younger daughter never got the full-blown birthday treatment that my older daughter got with special birthday treats and surprises.
This year, we planned a two-day trip. I was on my way home for a convention in Long Beach the week before our Disney trip, so I stopped off at Disneyland to pick up a few little trinkets to put in a birthday gift bag that would await our arrival at the hotel. My 10-year-old daughter still loves Tinker Bell and the promise of her pixie dust magic, so the gift bag was full of Tinker Bell items. I remembered that on a previous birthday trip for my older daughter, the staff at Paradise Pier sent up an autographed photo of Mickey and Minnie for her, so I went to City Hall to see if I could get the same thing for the birthday bag. When the Cast Member realized that Tinker Bell was really the star of this show, he asked me to give him 20 minutes and return!
Upon my return, he had a personalized, autographed photo of Tinker Bell waiting for me. I put the gift bag together with all the goodies I’d purchased, the photo and note from Tinker Bell, and asked the front desk staff of our hotel if they could have it waiting in our room for our arrival. They did and the look on my daughter’s face was something I will never forget. Her faith in Tinker Bell and pixie dust was confirmed and her special birthday weekend trip at Disney was off to a great start!
