I’ll Be Back Soon, Mr. Disney!

All my life I dreamed of working for Disney. I remember being young and telling my parents how one day I would be a “Disney Princess.” They always laughed and patted me on the head, but even though they had a good chuckle, I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

When I was 15 years old, we took our first trip to Walt Disney World. I was fascinated with every detail, and so excited to finally be where I wanted to work someday. That’s when I began asking Cast Members about working for Disney. One hot afternoon as my father and I headed to Typhoon Lagoon, I planned a little side trip before the water park. I dragged him to Downtown Disney and asked Guest Relations where I could fill out a Disney Cast Member application. They sent me to the casting building a few blocks down, so off we went!

I marched up the hallway and remember noticing the mural of Walt and his Disney Characters on the walls … it was truly magical! I went straight to the front desk and asked, “How do I work here?” They appeared stunned, but the Cast Members smiled and explained everything about the Disney College Program – I was hooked! I thanked them for their time, and headed to the water park.

The night before leaving Walt Disney World, we visited the Magic Kingdom to watch the fireworks show. As we left the Park, I remember turning to the Partners Statue and saying, “I’ll be back soon, Mr. Disney!” Meaning I’d return – as a Cast Member! And guess what? A few years later, that’s exactly what I did. In 2005, I became an Attractions Cast Member at the American Adventure through the Disney College Program. I can’t express the gratitude I have for all the Cast Members who helped me along the way. I was even able to share my story with a girl I met while working in the program – she was a Guest who wanted to work there just like me! This is truly what magic is and what Walt wanted – a continuation of his dream!
