Our family always made Walt Disney World a destination for family vacations – it became our yearly memory maker. When my older son Matt was diagnosed with Hodgkins-Lymphoma, we were all devastated. He was only 23 at the time. Obviously, family trips were put on hold. After successful treatments (at the end of 2004) he was declared cancer-free.
The first thing he wanted to do was go to Walt Disney World for a family trip. We made arrangements to go during the Christmas holiday season. For me, my husband, Matt, and our younger son, that trip was pure joy. We had the best time … the trip bonded us as a family like nothing else could have. What a tribute to Walt Disney that this young man had such fond family memories that he wanted to go as a family one more time.
Now that Matt’s a dad himself, we can’t wait to take his daughter (our beautiful granddaughter, age 20 months!) to Disney World. She’s already been to Disneyland, and knows exactly who Minnie Mouse is. Within the next year, we plan on making our first family trip there. Once again, memories will be made and passed on to the next generation. Thank you Disney for making such lasting and beautiful memories!
