The Walt Disney Company was founded on the ideas and dreams of one Walter Elias Disney. We got to thinking recently, what about the people currently working for Disney who share a name with its visionary founder? What are they like? And how do they feel about being namesakes of Walt?
We found three such individuals–who all work for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts–and asked them a few questions. Their answers are below:
What do you do here at Disney? I am a pyrotechnician for the Disneyland Resort.
Are you named after anyone? My father was also named Walter but I’m not a Jr. since our middle names are different. I’ve always gone by the name ‘Walt’.
What’s it like to work at Disney and share a name with the visionary behind the company’s inception? It’s quite an honor to work here with the name ‘Walt’. I do get comments occasionally from guests while interacting in the park that it is “cool”. I hope that I can bring happiness to others by presenting firework shows for our guests. I loved them so much when I was growing up here in Southern California and was disappointed when I visited on nights without fireworks.
Churro or Dole Whip? Dole Whip
Which Disney character is most like you? Without a doubt, Goofy.
What do you do here at Disney? I work as a Service Manager at Facilities Services.
Are you named after anyone? I was always told that Walter was my dad’s uncle’s name and then I got my dad’s middle name.
What’s it like to work at Disney and share a name with the visionary behind the company’s inception? It’s a great ice breaker unless you’re on the phone trying to talk to a vendor and they hang up because they think it’s a prank call.
Churro or Dole Whip? Churro, hands down!
Which Disney character is most like you? My wife has called me Peter Pan on many occasions. It’s always something about growing up, not sure what’s up with that but when she was younger it seemed important. All it took was a good Tigger bounce and she would forget all about it.
Walter W. Taylor II
What do you do here at Disney? I am a Retail Guest Service Manager at Typhoon Lagoon.
Are you named after anyone? I was named after my Grandfather.
What’s it like to work at Disney and share a name with the visionary behind the company’s inception? I have worked for Disney on three separate occasions. Before my first time with the Company I went by Walter not knowing that I would actually get hired. I stayed with Walter until I left. When I got rehired, I decided to switch it to Walt so that maybe Guests would use that as a conversation starter unaware just how much and how often Guests would stop and ask if my last name was Disney! I am into my 24th year with the Company and there isn’t a day that goes by when someone stops me and asks if “ I am related to the Man himself or if my last name is Disney!” I reply back that “I wish my last name is Disney, I would be out on the golf course if it was instead of working!” It’s an honor to wear the name tag believe me!
Churro or Dole Whip? No doubt about it “Dole Whip!”
Which Disney character is most like you? I like to think I am a lot like Mickey but I have a Stitch side that comes out from time to time!
