The official D23 Expo 2013 Guidebook and D23 Expo app have both been released, and they’re full of information about the upcoming D23 Expo. Since there is so much happening at this year’s event, we’ve highlighted our 23 most anticipated sights and experiences at the Expo. Take a look at what awaits in Anaheim, August 9-11:
The Disney Songbook
Multiple Academy Award®-winning Disney Legends Alan Menken and Richard Sherman will take the stage and perform together for one night only.
Animation Sneak Previews & Tech Demos
Not only will there be a special arena presentation from filmmakers at Walt Disney Animation Studios featuring the hotly anticipated Frozen, but guests will be able to take a closer look at the technology behind recent and upcoming films.
Live Action Feature Film Announcements
The Walt Disney Studios will showcase upcoming live-action films from Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm with exclusive clips and surprise guests. Expect to get first looks that haven’t been shared anywhere else.
Hands-on Game Previews
See special presentations of Disney Interactive’s most anticipated new video games, Disney Infinity & Fantasia: Music Evolved. Then play them for yourself.
Story Scavenger Hunt
Create and submit your own D23 Story by capturing special photos around the Expo. You’ll have multiple chances to win awesome prizes, with winners announced three times a day.
Journey Into Imagineering – 60th Anniversary Edition
Meet some of Disney’s Imagineers and take an up-close look at some of the up-til-now secret projects they’re currently working on.
Heroes and Villains à la Mode
In what is sure to be the most exciting display of Disney cosplay ever, thirty-six fan finalists will go head-to-head in an epic costume contest for collectible trophies that celebrate their talent.
Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives
This showcase from the Walt Disney Archives will count among its features a display devoted to Mary Poppins’ 50th anniversary, as well as a historical look at Disney’s long association with L. Frank Baum’s Oz books.
Plenty of Pixar
Not only will Walt Disney Studios be showing off Pixar Animation Studios’ 2014 summer release The Good Dinosaur at their animation preview, but Pixar will have a number of additional panels including Pixar: Doing Our Homework, Toy Story OF TERROR! and the Motivation Behind Pixar’s Short Form Content, and Women of Pixar.
Disney Legends Awards Ceremony
So far, only 249 men and women have been named Disney Legends. At the D23 Expo, Disney CEO Bob Iger personally hosts the induction of eight more Legends into that elite group: Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University stars Billy Crystal and John Goodman, technology visionary Steve Jobs, television icon Dick Clark and four others—Tony Baxter, Collin Campbell, Glen Keane, and Ed Wynn.
Mayhem, Mischief, and Monkeys: The Magic of Mystic Manor
Get a behind-the-scenes look at Hong Kong Disneyland’s Mystic Manor from the Imagineers working on it. Billed as “the newest and one of the most sophisticated attractions ever built,” there should be lots to learn about this typically secretive process.
Imagineer and Disney Legend inductee Tony Baxter revisits the early days of Disneyland Park, including a look at the masterful design and construction techniques that went into the construction of Walt’s first Park.
Crash Course in the Force: Star Wars Saga 101
Lucasfilm’s resident authority, Pablo Hidalgo, breaks down all you need to know about the Star Wars universe to help prepare you for the next wave of projects headed our way.
Disney Channel & Disney Jr. Casts & Characters
Not only will the stars of several Disney Channel and Disney XD shows appear live on stage at panel presentations and at signings, but Disney Jr.’s newest characters like Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates will also be available to meet.
