The cast and crew of Aladdin on Broadway can dance a little more than usual today, because they have something to celebrate. It was just announced that the show has received five Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical. And they’ve done it all without the help of a single real-life genie!
In addition to Best Musical, the show’s other nominations included:
- Best Book of a Musical – Chad Beguelin (Read our Insider interview with Chad right here)
- Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre – Alan Menken (Music), Howard Ashman, Time Rice, and Chad Beguelin (Lyrics)
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical – James Monroe Iglehart (Genie)
- Best Choreography – Casey Nicholaw
This Tony Award nomination means that Aladdin on Broadway has been nominated as Best Musical by all four of the major theatre awards for the year, including the Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Drama League Awards.
