Back in 2003, my wife and I took our 3 ½ year old daughter Emily for a day at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. We made sure to get there early when the park opened, so we would have a chance to experience all that there was to see. After getting off the Mad Tea Party around 9:15 AM, we went over to get an autograph and photo with Maleficent. When we approached her, Maleficent bent down and asked my daughter what her name was. My daughter quietly and reluctantly told her in a scared voice that her that her name was Emily. We then got our autograph and photo and were soon on our way to enjoy the rest of our day. Later on that day, at 3:00 PM, we lined up to watch the famous Walt Disney World afternoon parade. I had my daughter Emily sitting up on my shoulders so that she could see everything clearly. We were just casually watching the parade, when all of a sudden one of the parade floats with Maleficent on board, started approaching us from down the street. With my daughter still on my shoulders, we sheepishly waved up to Maleficent when she was directly in front of us. Without hesitation, Maleficent stared down at us, with evil eyes, and mouthed the name, “EMILY”, as slowly and as clearly as it could possibly be. My blood ran cold and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck rising up in sheer fright and disbelief! Somehow, Maleficent had remembered my daughter’s name from our brief encounter with her 6 hours earlier!!! Now it is 2014, almost exactly 11 years after this spooky encounter. I still talk and laugh about this incident with my daughter Emily who is now 14 ½ years old! I plan on taking my daughter to the new Disney movie, Maleficent, when it gets released on May 30, 2014 as a tribute to this fond memory that we have from long ago.
