Many Disney fans consider The Jungle Book to represent a high-water mark when it comes to both animation and music in Disney movies, and with good reason.The film was the final animated release during the life of Walt Disney, and one of the last works animated by the entire team of Nine Old Men. Including five songs by the Sherman Brothers and one by Terry Gilkyson, the film and accompanying record release is often cited by current filmmakers, such as Frozen’s Chris Buck and legendary Disney animator Andreas Deja, as a major influence on their early interest in animation. When it was released in 1967, it was incredibly popular, and became one of the highest grossing films of the year. “The Bare Necessities” was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song, and while it did not win at the time, it has clearly withstood the test of time, becoming one of the all-time classic songs from all of Disney animation.
