Over the last few years, various Marvel characters have been on hand at Disneyland to meet guests and take photos that will make anybody who wasn’t on that trip with you very, very jealous. And come November, when the new Super Hero HQ building opens at the Tomorrowland Expo Center at Disneyland, there will be a new hero to interact with, take a photo with, and hug mightily – Spider-Man!
That’s right, per the Disney Parks Blog, everyone’s favorite wall crawler will take up residency at Super Hero HQ starting on November 16. This is the same time that the rest of the Tomorrowland Expo Center will open as the Star Wars Launch Bay (and when a whole bunch of other Star Wars experiences flood Tomorrowland, including the Hyperspace Mountain overlay and a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens-themed scene being inserted into Star Tours). Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be available to pose for photos, sign autographs and generally make you feel safe from super villains like the Green Goblin. Elsewhere in Super Hero HQ, you’ll be able to meet Thor, virtually suit up as Iron Man and check out the Hall of Armor at Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries, as well as being able to play the latest games in the Game Center, and buy some super-powered merchandise.
Tomorrowland Expo Center is the circular building in Tomorrowland that was the first home to the Carousel of Progress, following its groundbreaking run at the 1964-65 World’s Fair in Queens. In 1974, a year after the Carousel of Progress was relocated to Walt Disney World, the building was the home to “America Sings,” a jovial, musical salute to the Bicentennial that featured a host of cutting edge animatronics (that were later used in Splash Mountain). In 1988, Innoventions started utilizing the space as a kind of testing ground for new technology and innovative ideas, occasionally incorporating popular Disney characters and breakthroughs that would become part of other aspects of the Park.
Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters and will be a wonderful edition to the roster of other heroes greeting guests at Super Hero HQ. A new version of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, will be introduced in next summer’s Captain America: Civil War (opening on May 6, 2016), before getting his own film on July 28, 2017. There will be plenty of web-slinging fun in the years ahead!
