The Nightmare Before Christmas truly is perfection—every bit of dialogue, every eerie lyric, unrivaled! With so many wondrous words packed into one movie, we thought it only fitting to rank a few of our favorites. It’s not exhaustive by any means, so chime in with your two cents!
9. “Jack, please, I’m only an elected official here. I can’t make decisions by myself!” – Mayor
AKA us when the daily struggle of deciding what to have for dinner rolls around.
8. ♫ I am the shadow on the moon at night, filling your dreams to the brim with fright! ♫ – Oogie Boogie
Leave it to a bug-filled potato sack to set the tone for the entire movie. Well played, Oogie.
7. “We’ll have conversations worth having.” – Dr. Finkelstein
This is where you feel kind of bad for Finkelstein. The creepy doctor just wants a friend and figures out (when he donates half his noggin) that sometimes you are your own best company.
6. ♫ And I, Jack, the Pumpkin King, have grown so tired of the same old thing. ♫ – Jack Skellington
Probably the most relatable Jack quote of the entire movie. Yes, it’s easy to take routine for granted. Yes, it’s important to let those feelings spur you to try new things. But no, it should never be at the cost of who you really are.
5. ♫ Although I’d like to join the crowd in their enthusiastic cloud, try as I may, it doesn’t last. ♫ – Sally
Sally, wisest ragdoll of all. She never strays or gives into peer pressure. Let this be a lesson to us all to listen to our hearts and trust our gut.
4. “Haven’t you heard of peace on Earth and goodwill toward men?” – Santa
Because a little reminder to be kind never hurts.
3. ♫ Why does nothing ever turn out like it should? ♫ – Jack Skellington
Preach, Jack. Preach.
2. ♫ Just because I cannot see it, doesn’t mean I can’t believe it. ♫ – Jack Skellington
Because after all, the most magical parts of Christmas and spooky parts of Halloween are those unseen.
1. ♫ For it is plain as anyone can see, we’re simply meant to be. ♫ – Jack Skellington and Sally
Swoon. Love conquers all. Forever.
