One of the best things about Disney movies is that they always keep us guessing. We love those moments that take us completely by surprise and give us further insight into the characters. Because those moments are thrilling and should never be taken away from first time viewers, we must warn you that if you read on, there will be spoilers. Scan the Disney movie titles first. If you’ve seen all of the below movies, you’re good to keep reading. And now, without further ado, let’s rank the most shocking Disney movie reveals:
9. Movie: Tangled
Reveal: When Flynn Rider told Rapunzel his real name.
We never would have guessed that Flynn Rider’s real name was Eugene Fitzherbert, but we love him even more for it. Especially since he trusted Rapunzel with the truth about his past.
8. Movie: The Princess and the Frog
Reveal: When Tiana and Naveen got married and it broke the spell.
We thought they were going to be stuck as frogs forever, but when they got married, it made Tiana a princess, breaking the spell when she kissed Naveen. This is a genius twist on the classic tale and another reason why we love Disney movies.
7. Movie: Mulan
Reveal: When Shang found out that Mulan was a woman in disguise.
Okay, this wasn’t shocking for us as the audience since we knew it all along, but it was very shocking for Shang who thought he had been friends with a man named Ping. Shang was not having it at first, but he soon wisely realized (with help from the Emperor) that although Mulan didn’t tell him the truth, that doesn’t change the fact that she saved his life, and all of China.
6. Movie: The Little Mermaid
Reveal: When Eric found out the truth about Ariel and Vanessa.
Again, not very shocking for us since we saw it happening all along, but very shocking for Eric to find out that Ariel was actually a mermaid and Vanessa was actually a sea witch. We’re actually not sure how he kept it together when he realized all of this at once.
5. Movie: The Lion King
Reveal: When Scar betrayed Mufasa.
Scar showed signs of jealousy for his brother Mufasa and his nephew Simba. He even manipulated Simba into getting into trouble. He also got a bunch of hyenas to march around him while he told them to be prepared for his reign. But Scar revealed his true self when he actually went through with it, luring Simba to the gorge, creating a stampede, and then throwing Mufasa off of a cliff. We are shocked every time we see this scene.
4. Movie: Beauty and the Beast
Reveal: When Belle told Beast she loved him at the last second.
Let’s face it, we all knew Belle cared for Beast, but did she love him enough to break the spell? We weren’t sure until she came back to his castle, and it was raining, and just as the last petal fell from the rose, she told him she loved him. Then Beast transformed into a human again in the most majestic way. And then we all cried happy tears forever.
3. Movie: Wreck-It Ralph
Reveal: When we found out the truth about King Candy.
We knew there was something evil about King Candy, but we had no idea he was actually Turbo in disguise, until he tried to run Vanellope off the road on their final race. We think this makes him twice the amount of evil.
2. Movie: Zootopia
Reveal: When we found out who was really behind the crime in Zootopia.
Who would have thought that this adorable little lamb would be behind it all? Not us. Which is exactly the point of the movie—you can’t judge anyone by how look, no matter how adorable they are. For example, Judy Hopps is adorable and super awesome. However, Mayor Bellwether is adorable and super evil.
1. Movie: Frozen
Reveal: When Hans revealed his true self to Anna.
A lot of what we have to say about this moment is in an article entitled, “Why, Hans, Why?” Hans betrayed Anna, left her to freeze, and in turn revealed his frozen heart. You’re the worst, Hans.
