Are You Caught Up on the Best July Music Videos?

Now that it’s officially August, let’s review the best music videos that July had to offer, including Bea Miller, Lucy Hale, Jesse McCartney, and more!

Bea Miller, Young Blood

Bea Miller co-wrote “Young Blood,” the title track for her EP and the perfect anthem to get us ready for her anticipated album release.

Jesse McCartney, The Other Guy (Official Audio)

We’re loving the retro, romantic vibes of Jesse McCartney’s new single. It’s definitely a departure from his old sound, but if this is representative of Jesse’s musical future, we think we’ll be just fine.

Shawn Mendes, Life of the Party (Official Lyric Video)

We already wrote about being obsessed with Shawn’s debut single, and that hasn’t changed. First of all, we love the stripped-down lyric video: the simplicity of the handwritten lyrics and the slow zoom on Sam let us focus on the moving, affirming lyrics in the song. (Also, did you know that Shawn Mendes is Radio Disney’s current N.B.T. featured artist?)

Shawn Mendes, Show You (Official Lyric Video)

Again, another super-simple lyric video that lets the song stand on its own. “Show You” is more upbeat than “Life of the Party,” but it maintains the same uplifting, do-your-own-thing message that we love in his first lyric video.

Lucy Hale, Lie a Little Better

First off all, Lucy is fully claiming country street (err, dirt road?) cred by shooting this video at the Grand Ole Opry, where she performed in June. Unlike “You Sound Good To Me,” this video doesn’t have a sweeping narrative, but instead gives us a feel of a typical performance day with Lucy and her band.

Owl City, Wolf Bite (Official Visualizer)

“Wolf Bite” is the first single on Owl City’s new EP, Ultraviolet. We haven’t gotten a new album from Owl City since 2012—it was definitely time! We also love the quirky, playful feeling of this visualizer video.

R5, Heart Made Up On You (Official Lyric Video)

The lyric video for “Heart Made Up On You,” the title track from R5’s new EP features tons of behind-the-scenes performance footage. This song also has a Maroon 5-esque sound to us, it’s definitely a more mature single coming from the band, and we’re into it.

Sam Smith, I’m Not The Only One (Official Audio)

If we had to pick one new obsession for summer 2014, Sam Smith would be it. His lyrics, his deep, syrupy voice… we haven’t been this intrigued by a new artist in a long time. We once heard Carson Daly predict a Sam Smith Grammys sweep on his morning show, and we don’t find that so far-fetched.

Hilary Duff, Chasing the Sun

It’s the return of Hilary Duff! We haven’t gotten new music from her since 2007, and we’re digging this lighthearted, summery single. Our favorite thing about the video, however, is the collection of completely clumsy moments that remind us of one Lizzie McGuire.

Colbie Caillat, Try

This video is not only incredibly beautiful, but it carries an impactful, important message for all females who feel like they have put on makeup, curl their hair, and dress a certain way to impress the world around them. This is a video that every girl should watch, and we applaud Colbie for putting it out there.
