One Direction is currently traveling the world on their Where We Are tour, playing huge stadiums all around the world. They just finished a three night engagement at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. playing sold out shows to a crowd of 60,000 screaming Directioners each night. We were lucky enough to be at the Saturday show, and had so much fun singing and dancing along with the lads. Harry, Zayn, Niall, Louis, and Liam put on quite the show, complete with fireworks, on-stage antics, and birthday balloons (more on that later). So, what were the best moments from the concert? We compiled our favorites so we can continue to relive this amazing concert over and over again.
Celebrating Niall’s 21st Birthday
Yes, it was Niall’s birthday on Saturday, and he kicked off the show with birthday balloons tied to his guitar. The boys all called out his birthday several times during the concert, and Niall proclaimed his 21st birthday his best yet.
Everybody Singing Niall “Happy Birthday”
This gets its own recognition because it was so cute. Louis led the entire crowd in a roaring rendition of “Happy Birthday” in honor of Niall’s big day. Niall even did an Irish jig, which was pretty much the best thing ever.
Liam’s Dance Moves
Everyone knows One Direction isn’t into those choreographed moves, but that doesn’t mean these boys can’t dance. We spotted Liam several times showing off some pretty sweet footwork that impressed us.
The Fireworks
The show kicked off with a bang, quite literally, with fireworks for the boys’ opener “Midnight Memories.” It was a fun element that added to the songs, and the finale pretty much looked like the 4th of July as fireworks lit up the sky to end the concert.
Harry the Air Guitarist
At different points during the show, Harry would rock it out on the air guitar and we just couldn’t help but laugh. It’s that kind of goofiness that makes us love 1D so much.
Emojis and Pixelated Band Members
The stage for the concert was definitely one of the best parts of the show. There was a large wraparound screen in the middle, and two larger screens on the outside that played all kinds of effects during the concert. One of our favorite uses of the screens was for “Better Than Words.” Instead of a lyric video, it was an emoji video, with smiley faces, ghosts, wolves, and other symbols and signs matching the lyrics of the song. Our other favorite was for “One Thing,” in which the boys were turned into pixelated video game versions of themselves.
Niall’s Irish Mic
To mark whose microphone is whose, the boys have their mikes taped with different colors. Liam’s microphone is red, Harry’s is green, and Niall’s mike… well, it’s green, white, and orange, a tribute to his home country of Ireland. It’s the little things that make you go aww.
The Band Introductions
When the boys took a moment out of the show to thank their band, each band member played a little riff of a song. So, we got to hear the boys sing covers of “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, and “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake. Our favorite was definitely Niall singing “Stand By Me.”
Harry Trying To Get the Crowd Quiet
At one point, Harry led the crowd in a screaming game, in which he asked everyone to get as quiet as possible and then scream as loud as possible. Trying to quiet down 60,000 screaming fans is no easy task, and Harry tried to his best not to keep giggling while being somewhat serious in his task.
Niall Conducting the Band
Much like Harry’s air guitar skills, Niall loved to “conduct” the band. Like a pro, he would run up on the ramp and start moving his arms like a music conductor for the band. Needless to say, it made us laugh every time.
Their Stage Presence
There’s no doubt about it, One Direction knows how to put on an amazing concert. They sounded great, and they kept the crowd’s energy up the whole time. They genuinely looked like they were having the greatest time of their lives, and the audience definitely read that. Their bond as friends is one of the things that makes One Direction so beloved, and we love to see them put on great shows like this one.
Have you seen 1D on tour yet?
