The Best Advice Comes from Disney Songs

“Regular” people seek advice from family and friends. We, on the other hand, get our best advice from Disney songs.

From songs of empowerment to lighthearted songs of joy, Disney songs know what’s up. Suuuuure, we may not know what it’s like to secretly join the Imperial army in order to protect our family from battle, and we probably didn’t grow up with Julie Andrews as our nanny, but we can definitely relate to the songs that came from these situations. For example:

♫ Tranquil as a forest, but on fire within. Once you find your center, you are sure to win. ♫ – Mulan
Mulan, Make A Man Out of You
It was really hard for us to pick out just one line from this epic song. It was even harder for us to not type it in ALL CAPS. “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” is the ultimate power song and might just be the only appropriate time to hit the “caps lock” key.

Runner-up: ♫ Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym. ♫ – Mulan
Mulan, Make a Man Out of You 2
Skipping class is bad, kids, and yes, gym counts as a class.

♫ It means no worries for the rest of your days. It’s our problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata. ♫ – The Lion King
Lion King, Hakuna Matata
Timon and Pumbaa have got it right. Why stress when there’s a whole lot of goodness right under your nose (or snout)? And don’t worry! This mossy log bridge is totally stable!

♫ And as the years go by, our friendship will never die. You’re gonna see it’s our destiny. You’ve got a friend in me. ♫ – Toy Story
Toy Story, You've Got a Friend in Me
Randy Newman, you wise soul. Woody and Buzz are the best kind of best friends and inspire us to stick with our BFF’s through thick (Sunnyside Daycare, Al’s Toy Barn, etc.) and thin.

♫ A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. ♫ – Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins, Spoonful of Sugar
This advice is practically perfect in every way. Every sour situation in life can be sweetened with a simple change of perspective. But hey, eating a literal spoonful of sugar could do the trick too.

♫ When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, anything your heart desires will come to you. ♫ – Pinocchio
Pinocchio, Wish Upon a Star
Jiminy Cricket is one incredible insect (Haven’t you seen the way he’s dressed?). You can achieve anything, as long as you keep wishing, hoping, and dreaming (…and wearing a dapper top hat and vest combo).

♫ Don’t spend your time lookin’ around for something you want that can’t be found. When you find out you can live without it and go along not thinkin’ about it, I’ll tell you something true: the bare necessities of life will come to you. ♫ – The Jungle Book
Jungle Book, Bare Necessitites
Life is all about the simple things, and Baloo and Mowgli make the most of it. Whether it’s floating on a lazy river or boogying with your best friend, the best things come from the bare necessities. (Bonus points for the bear pun.)

♫ Now, think of the happiest things. It’s the same as having wings. ♫ – Peter Pan
Peter Pan, You Can Fly
Disclaimer: Do not try this at home. Do, however, try to think happy thoughts. A positive attitude can take you to the most wonderful places.

♫ Though I’m one disgusting blighter, I’m a lover, not a fighter ’cause way down deep inside, I’ve got a dream. ♫ – Tangled
Tangled, I've Got a Dream
There’s a dreamer in all of us, and sometimes, all it takes is a choreographed musical number to bring it out. Follow your heart, no matter what the world thinks of/fears about you.

♫ I will find my way. I can go the distance. ♫ – Hercules
Hercules, Go the Distance
Nobody said a happily-ever-after comes easy. Work through life’s rough patches with a little help from the sweet words of Alan Menken.
