The Most Powerful Music Moments at the 2015 Oscars

Last night’s 87th Academy Awards was full of everything you’d expect from a star-studded awards show: amazing red carpet looks, celebration for the best films of the year, and powerful music moments! We were watching to see who would take home the awards, and to see performers like Maroon 5, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Common, and John Legend take the stage.

The night kicked off with an opening number by Neil Patrick Harris, written by Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Anna Kendrick made an appearance during the number, donning her Into The Woods Cinderella costume, and funnyman Jack Black even joined the two onstage. Needless to say, this was a hard act to follow!

Lady Gaga may have topped the performance though, surprising everyone with a flawless Sound of Music tribute. The singer, notorious for her bizarre and unusual performances, delivered a beautiful medley of songs from the musical, and was the most tweeted-about moment during the show. Julie Andrews, the star of the original Sound of Music thanked Gaga for her performance, which is a pretty huge deal!

John Legend and Common took the stage, accompanied by a choir, to perform the Oscar-nominated song “Glory,” from Selma. It was an emotional and powerful moment during the Oscars. Better yet, the song ended up winning the Oscar for Best Original Song!
