This is some gigantic news: Today at D23 EXPO Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that Academy Award-winning duo Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez will serve as the songwriting team on Gigantic. The artists serenaded D23 EXPO fans today alongside director Nathan Greno (Tangled) and producer Dorothy McKim (Get A Horse!).
The husband-and-wife songwriting team have a long list of songwriting accolades to their respective names, but are most widely known for penning songs in Frozen. Their acclaimed song “Let It Go” reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and won both the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2014 and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media in 2015. They also wrote seven songs for the 2011 Winnie The Pooh movie, and Kristen voiced the role of Kanga. Robert has been awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award, and is the only person to have won all within a decade.
Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Disney’s Gigantic follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. Stay tuned for more updates—Robert and Kristin will appear at the “Frozen Fandemonium: A Musical Celebration” panel at D23 EXPO on Sunday, August 16.
