International superstar Shakira is adding a wild new addition to her list of accomplishments: she will be voicing the character of Gazelle in upcoming comedy-adventure Zootopia. The Latin songstress’ role was announced today at D23 EXPO, and it was revealed that she will sing a song for the film called “Try Something,” written by Sia and Stargate.
Sia and Stargate are the dream team behind Rihanna’s 2012 hit “Diamonds,” and it’s not the first time Sia and Shakira have worked together either. The two powerhouse songwriters penned the song “Chasing Shadows” for Shakira’s 2014 self-titled album, which was added as a bonus track. Shakira is the recipient of five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, 28 Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. Her role in Zootopia will be her first time performing as a voice actor.
Gazelle is a member of the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia, a melting pot where animals from every environment live together. It’s a city like no other—a place where no matter who you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.
