Did you know that Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda is a big Disney fan? The evidence is clear, based on the fact that he freestyled the most epic announcement to let the world know he’s working on the music for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming film, Moana. Oh, and he happens to be a huge Alan Menken fan like all of us (he loves tweeting Newsies GIFs) and also previously listed his location on Twitter as San Fransokyo.
Right now Miranda stars in Hamilton, the hit Broadway musical that he also wrote the music for. Every night, thousands of fans fill the sidewalks outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre where Hamilton is currently playing, for a chance to win $10 front row tickets to the currently sold out show. Miranda took notice of the huge crowds each night and started doing impromptu shows for the fans. The tradition, now known as #Ham4Ham, has featured some of Broadway’s best, including Kelli O’Hara, Matthew Morrison, and Brian d’Arcy James.
At last night’s #Ham4Ham, Miranda’s Disney love was on full display when he invited Lea Salonga, the singing voice of Jasmine from Aladdin, to join him in a duet of “A Whole New World.” It was a perfect rendition of one of Alan Menken’s classics and is definitely our favorite #Ham4Ham show to date. And if our praise wasn’t enough, Scott Weinger—the voice of Aladdin himself—tweeted at Miranda, showing how much he loved the video. This led to one of the best Twitter exchanges of our lives between Weinger and Miranda.
Guys, can we best friends with you all already?
