If you’re a fan of The Lion King, it goes without saying that you’ve probably belted out “Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba!” Perhaps you’ve imagined yourself as part of the iconic opening number, as a wise mandrill lifting a tiny lion cub into the air, or like us, you identify more as a graceful kneeling gazelle. Either way, it’s universally accepted that “Circle of Life” is epic, and thanks to Broadway’s The Lion King you can now experience it in a totally new way. This virtual reality video of the show’s opening scene gives you a sense of what it would be like to stand center stage as the African savanna comes to life around you. Check it out now:
The 360° experience is the first time this VR technology has been used inside a Broadway theatre. Even if you’re a seasoned fan who’s seen the show many times, it’s safe to say you’ve never quite felt what it might be like to stand onstage, in the midst of the cast members, with set pieces flying in from above, and actors emerging from two floors below the stage, as Pride Rock rises up to present Mufasa, Rafiki, and baby Simba. You can find out even more about the making of the film, and Disney Theatrical Production’s partnership with Total 360 Cinema on Wired. And if you’re itching to view the video in a different experience, you can watch on the Littlstar app, Google Cardboard with the YouTube app, or the Samsung Gear VR with Milk VR.
