It’s a common misconception that parents don’t excel in the cool department. We say misconception because these Disney parents clearly put that thought to shame. Some of our favorites (parents, take note):
10. Mrs. Banks – Mary Poppins
She may be a bit up in the clouds, but we love how spirited she is. And she can expertly catch a porcelain vase without looking. No big deal.
9. Prince Charming’s Dad, the King – Cinderella
When his son finds true love, he is the most enthusiastic. But he recognizes his zeal may not be appreciated up close, so he’s just like: great, good job, going to sleep now.
8. Mr. and Mrs. McGuire – The Lizzie McGuire Movie
So maybe they’re not so chill at first, what with traveling across the world because Matt has a case of the fake sniffles. BUT they really come around when they just see their daughter singing to literally thousands of people in one of the most historical venues ever and they’re just dancing along like it’s no big deal.
7. Charles Kingsleigh – Alice in Wonderland
When this young Alice wakes up from a nightmare, Charles whips out this gem: “You’re mad, bonkers, off your head! But I’ll tell you a secret: all the best people are.” He recognizes and encourages our collective state of bonker-ness.
6. Pongo and Perdita – One Hundred and One Dalmatians
So they end up with ninety-nine puppies. That’s pretty cool. (Also, bonus points for their mischievous and genius soot endeavors.)
5. Mr. and Mrs. Possible – Kim Possible
She’s a doctor, and he’s a rocket scientist. And they have a super stylish abode. (Mid-century modern, if you will.)
4. Mia’s Mom – The Princess Diaries
Two words: paint. balloons.
3. Rapunzel’s Parents – Tangled
They literally just reunited with their daughter, but they immediately welcome Flynn to the family in the very same hug. We guess they fell for Flynn as immediately as we did.
2. Chicha, Pacha’s Wife – The Emperor’s New Groove
Best use of children’s creativity ever. Letting them have some fun AND turning an evil villain into a pinata?
This really gets a high ranking on the parenting scale.
1. Zeus – Hercules
His flowing white locks and his purplish-pinkish toga weren’t enough. He had to go and create Pegasus out of thin air. Well played, Zeus. Well played.
Who would be on your list of cool Disney parents?
