It was a jolly holiday indeed when fans gathered at The Grove this weekend to celebrate Dick Van Dyke’s 90th birthday. On Saturday, a crowd dressed as chimney sweeps grouped together to form a Mary Poppins-themed flash mob. Van Dyke, of course, was surprised and thrilled to see that so many people had come out to honor him. Check out the fun in the video below:
The performance kicked off with the classic “Jolly Holiday,” then segued to “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Step in Time,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” all while Van Dyke enjoyed the performance from a balcony above, while he sang and clapped along. When the final song finished, the actor went down to the street and sang “Let’s go Fly a Kite” as the group held up kite-shaped signs that spelled out “Happy Birthday, Dick.”
The birthday celebration didn’t stop there, as Van Dyke visited Disneyland the following day, where he rode in a special cavalcade down Main Street as fans lined the route and sang “Happy Birthday.”
Additionally, a special silhouette of his character was unveiled at the park’s Jolly Holiday Bakery Café. We can’t wait to check it out the next time we’re at the Park!
