Star Wars: The Force Awakens has moved beyond being a movie and has entered the realm of quantifiable cultural phenomenon. Just this week it became the highest-grossing film in the history of the U.S. box office, and next month a brand new character from the film will be taking their place at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Star Wars’ presence in the Parks has intensified recently, with the Season of the Force event at Disneyland and Star Wars Awakens at Walt Disney World. Both of these events showcase the newly augmented Star Tours (it now includes a Jakku sequence and an appearance by Finn and BB-8), specialty food and merchandise, and Jedi Training: Trails of the Temple (where kids can battle their favorite foes). All of this, of course, is in anticipation of the Star Wars-themed lands coming to both parks in the next few years.
But coming next month is a brand new meet and greet experience at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, featuring one of your favorite new characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Starting in February, you’ll get to have your very own encounter with the fearsome Kylo Ren. As he might say, “Anything else?”
Why yes, there is! You will be able to face off against Kylo Ren in the new Star Wars Launch Bay at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. That’s where you’ll find Kylo Ren, who will be greeting you on the bridge of his First Order Star Destroyer. Elsewhere in the Launch Bay, you might seen a platoon of First Order Stormtroopers or exchange growls with Chewbacca, who is holed up in a secret Resistance base. (The Launch Bay also features wonderful kiosks where you can play current and upcoming Star Wars videogames and purchase exclusive merchandise, as well as view props and costumes from the various films.)
We can’t wait in line and get our photo with Kylo Ren, even if it means momentarily joining the dark side.
