Principal photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. has officially begun at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, according to an announcement made by Marvel earlier today. The film, which will be set to the tunes of Awesome Mixtape #2, is slated to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
Returning for the sequel to Director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy are Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Sean Gunn (Kraglin). Kurt Russell (Furious 7, The Hateful Eight), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop), Elizabeth Debicki (Everest, The Great Gatsby), and Pom Klementieff (Old Boy) will also be joining the cast.
Kurt Russell’s inclusion has been rumored for a while now, so this exciting news. His role is still a mystery at the moment. The other bit of interesting news lies in the character poster that was released alongside the casting news. First, the film has officially been titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; second, Groot is still small! It looks like he hasn’t grown much since we last saw him.
