New Star Wars Nighttime Spectacular And Stage Show Announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Be prepared to experience a galaxy far, far away like never before.

The Disney Parks Blog just announced a whole host of new Star Wars experiences available for guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, part of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. And it sounds so insanely cool.

Starting on April 4, there will be a new Star Wars stage show, entitled “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,” that will take place daily on Center Stage (the stage in front of the Chinese Theater). This new production will feature iconic moments from the film series and feature appearances from Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Darth Maul. On the same day, Captain Phasma will begin leading a squadron of First Order stormtroopers on a march from the Star Wars Launch Bay (in the old Animation Courtyard) all the way to Center Stage, multiple times each day. Considering what an amazing impression Phasma left in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we can’t wait to see her in real life.

But maybe most exciting of all is a brand new Star Wars nighttime spectacular, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” opening this summer. Being described as “the next generation of the current Star Wars-inspired show,” the new show will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects, and video projection (like the kind currently being used in the Disneyland fireworks) that will transform the nearby Chinese Theater and other buildings into iconic landmarks from the Star Wars saga. According to the official blog post, they’ll be turned into “the twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, Starkiller Base, and other Star Wars destinations.” The show will be “punctuated with a tower of fire and spotlight beams, creating massive lightsabers in the sky.” This will be the most elaborate fireworks performance in the history of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It will take a fleet of First Order stormtroopers to keep us away.

Of course, these are just the latest additions to an already staggering amount of super-fun Star Wars experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: there’s already the additional Star Wars: The Force Awakens-inspired sequence (and other embellishments) in Star Tours: The Adventures Continue; Star Wars Launch Bay, an incredibly detailed, multipurpose space that includes character interactions, prop galleries, and exclusive merchandise; and the new Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, where young Jedis-to-be can face off against the Seventh Sister, one of the big bads from Disney XD’s wonderful animated series Star Wars Rebels.
