Wow, this has certainly been a Cap-filled week. A few days ago, Marvel shared character posters for the members of both Team Cap, and Team Iron Man. After that, we also got a taste of what’s to come in Captain America: Civil War with a moody teaser featuring ominous chanting (“United we stand! Divided we fall!”). Today, we got the full-blown trailer, and our minds are appropriately blown. Check it out below!
This trailer has it all: a solidification of the central conflict (apparently it has to do with all of the destruction thus far wrought in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the actual legislative bill is called the Sokovia Accords; in the brilliant comic book series it’s based on, the Superhero Registration Act was introduced after the superhero-assisted destruction of Stamford, Connecticut), more action with all of the players (how cool was Scarlet Witch manipulating Vision?), and a clearer sense of the emotional stakes at play (Tony rushing after a downed War Machine was particularly poignant).
Oh, and Spider-Man.
That’s right: in a kind of teaser trailer version of Marvel’s famous post-credits Easter eggs, after the title card is flashed, we get a glimpse of the new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. We had been wondering when we would get a glimpse of everybody’s favorite neighborhood wall-crawler, and here he is! Some brief thoughts: we love the simplicity of the suit and how, for the first time, his eyes actually move instead of being static, goggle-like shapes. It adds an extra dose of comic book-y goodness. And we love how Tony called him “Underoos.” This movie is going to be so amazing.
Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6 (which now seems even further away). See you there!
