Exciting new things are coming to the Disney vacation experience that go beyond a trip to any of the Parks.
At a recent press event, we heard details of current changes and upcoming travel experiences that we’re really excited about. “Next year, Disney Cruise Line will sail new itineraries, and to new ports, including first time visits to four new destinations in Alaska and in Europe,” explained Karl Holz, president of New Vacation Operations and Disney Cruise Lines. Holz also detailed that next summer Disney Cruise Line will be sailing back to former destinations: Norway, the British Isles, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas, and will visit new locations such as Amsterdam and Alaska’s Icy Strait Point. “The fact of the matter is this, there has never been a better time to sail the high seas with Disney,” Holz said.
In addition to an update of the success of Disney Cruise Line’s collaboration with LucasFilm for Star Wars experiences on the high seas, Holz also reminded audience members of the two new ships that are scheduled to be completed in 2021 and 2023. While design plans, ship names, and cruise itineraries are still in development, Holz said that more details will be coming “very, very soon.”
Along with the Disney Cruise Lines news, information involving the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) and Adventures by Disney was announced, this time by senior vice president and general manager of both DVC and Adventures by Disney, Ken Potrock. In his presentation Potrock talked about the success of Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii, which is one of the 13 (soon-to-be 14) Disney resorts that are part of the DVC. A second DVC property at the Wilderness Lodge Resort will be the 14th DVC resort, and will feature deluxe accommodations. “We’re building waterfront cabins, similar to bungalows that we have at Polynesian Resort, but bigger, on the water, and very magical,” Potrock said. “We’re incredibly excited about that.” When can we book our trip?
“Beyond just those resorts, the DVC gives you access to Disney Cruise Line, it also gives you access to Adventures by Disney, gives you access to the concierge collection, which is a collection of magnificent hotels and properties around the world, and 4000-plus other choices,” Potrock explained.
Another new addition to the DVC will be a DVC members’ only lounge at Epcot’s Imagination Pavilion that will open this May. “[The lounge is] an opportunity for members that want to take a break, that want to take a respite,” Potrock explained.
Additionally, Potrock announced that Adventures by Disney will be expanding its repertoire to over 40 itineraries, including a river cruise on the Rhine River, a trip to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, and a trip focused on China that will end at Shanghai Disneyland.
