This is it: the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con. This is undoubtedly the most hotly anticipated panel of the entire convention, and we are there! It’s been confirmed that both Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 and Doctor Strange will have a presence in the panel, but it wouldn’t be a Marvel Studios presentation if there weren’t some big surprises. So keep it here for every detail, as it is magically conjured or blasts in from another galaxy! Excelsior!
That’s it for me but switch over to Facebook Live for more thoughts!
AND WE GET A MARVEL STUDIOS HAT. Well wasn’t that just perfect!
Giacchino gets another shout out!
She just gave Feige a big hug!
CAPTAIN MARVEL IS BEING ANNOUNCED. BRIE LARSON IS IN THE BUILDING.
All of the Marvel actors are coming back to the stage for an epic selfie. Don’t tell Ellen.
The things we remember right now: Star Lord calls Rocket a “trash panda,” Baby Groot is amazing, Kurt is playing Ego, and, oh yeah, Sylvester Stallone is a cast member.
WOW. The Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 footage is really something.
MORE Guardians footage!
And a surprise announcement: Guardians of the Galaxy are coming to Disney California Adventure.
“You made Yondu cookies and brought them to a party.” – Chris Hardwick remembers Rooker’s campaigning
“I think Yondu in this new version here is much more forgiving.” – Rooker
KURT RUSSELL SPEAKS. “It’s great to come here to Comic Con, you guys are a blast. I think James wrote a great character and I was lucky enough to play it. It’s fun to play a character who you can hopefully make memorable. I had a great time with these guys.”
“There’s not much of a time gap. So if anything he’s more confused.” – Bautista on Drax
Pom, who plays Mantis, says this about her character: “I’m a new character and I’m an alien. I have empathic powers and I spent my life with Kurt Russell’s character before meeting all the Guardians.”
“I have hair, which is really exciting, so I look like a female instead of a really long baby!” – Karen
“I have to say the four hours of green make-up, it was a blast for us. No, seriously, I think the best part is coming back and working with my friends — working with people I love.” – Zoe Saldana
“Well, he’s famous in the galaxy now for having saved so many people. Our movie picks up only a couple of months after that. We’re really picking up where we left off. He really feels like he’s a leader of this group.” – Pratt on where Star Lord is now
“It’s a much better pressure when people are excited to see your movie. It’s like people have been very excited, I’ve been very touched by all of the fan support.” – Gunn on the pressures of the sequel
“I think a lot of people learned who the Guardians of the Galaxy were thanks to Hall H.” – Gunn
Michael Rooker has appeared in full Yondu regalia.
AMAZING Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 footage shown. The world is introduced to baby Groot. The world swoons.
Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debecki, and KURT RUSSELL are on the stage.
Chris Pratt is coming on stage, booed by the Ravagers.
Now the cast is coming out!
The amazing Chris Sullivan, who plays baddie Taserface, is having a blast on stage.
Ravagers are in the house, causing a ruckus!
“I love you, I love you, I love you!” – Gunn to the crowd
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 director James Gunn takes the stage!
And yes, there might have been a certain winged villain glimpsed in the Spider-Man footage…
The rest of the cast is leaving to continue shooting.
Holland was genuinely blown away and surprised by the footage. It was adorable.
ZENDAYA IS HERE, y’all.
Lots of John Hughes/Richard Linklater vibes from the Spider-Man footage.
Footage time!
“It’s a straight-up high school movie. I always describe it as the ground level of the Marvel Universe. We know what it’s like to be a billionaire playboy inventor, and we’re also going to know what it’s like to be in 10th grade and be a kid.” – Watts on Spider-Man: Homecoming
Also: Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man Homecoming.
“Hey everyone,” Holland says.
Tom Holland makes a surprise appearance!
Spider-Man is in the building! Y’all ready for some Homecoming?
SOMETHING IS HAPPENING.
The Doctor Strange light show was orchestrated by Michael Giacchino. Reason 43823948590 why I love that guy.
“That was amazing. I’m in a bit of a shock, actually.” – Benedict on the Doctor Strange footage
Glorious.

BTW we love this new Thor: Ragnarok logo.
Clip was Doctor Strange‘s first meeting with the Ancient One. And it was pretty mind-blowing.
Doctor Strange clip is about to magically appear!
Mads doesn’t think he’s a villain. “Like all good villains, he believes in what he does. I think there’s a different path to find this better world, a better world, a much more beautiful path. So he’s definitely not a villain. He’s a believer.”
“The Ancient One could be anyone!” – Tilda
“Mordo becomes sort of a mentor. Stephen Strange is very unique.” – Chiwetel
“We live in the real world and we were friendly at one time. And now we’re colleagues. I’m always trying to get him to try and work in my unit because he’s one of the most talented surgeons on the planet.” – Rachel McAdams on her character’s relationship with Doctor Strange
“He’s very different from everything else I’ve done before. It’s an absolute joy from start to finish.” – Benedict
“It’s very different. The scale of it is something else. I don’t know. I feel a lot of the heavy lifting was done from the comics. This is a fantastic arc that this character goes on, as someone who is seemingly in control of a world we recognize, and then this chaotic mess of an accident happens. It’s a story about him discovering that he doesn’t know anything.” – Benedict
Tilda Swinton’s crush velvet suit is jaw-dropping, FYI.
“The comic was an origin story, and it was a left turn in the Marvel Universe. And the film we’ve made is all of those things. I want to introduce the rest of the cast of Doctor Strange: Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor!” – Derrickson
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is also here!
“Hello San Diego. What a treat!” – Benedict
I think we are being beamed into another dimension for the Doctor Strange part of the show. Benedict Cumberbatch has taken the stage!
Also: the Thor: Ragnarok pre-production footage looks amazing. Cate Blanchett looks deliciously evil, there are giant wolves, Thor gets a haircut, and, yes, Hulk looks great in his Planet Hulk gear.
It’s Doctor Strange!
The screens have opened up, blue mist is descending from the ceiling. Something incredible is about to happen.
This is directed by Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok, and it is incredible.
There’s a faux documentary in the vein of What We Do In the Shadows about what Thor was doing during Civil War. Incredible.
“They’re on the other side of the planet, but they’re filming Thor: Ragnarok. We’ve got Chris Hemsworth, we’ve got Tom Hiddleston, we’ve got Jeff Goldblum in this movie. It’s a dream. We’ve got a co-star of Michael B. Jordan’s, Tessa Thompson. Mark Ruffalo is playing two roles in this movie. And every time I say this, I still can’t believe it, but Cate Blanchett is in the movie. It doesn’t come out for a year and a half so there will be plenty of time to show you things.” – Feige
“Thank y’all for your energy, we’re going to take it in and make it great!” – director Ryan Coogler
Also in Black Panther, Danai Gurira from The Walking Dead!
“It’s my first time at Comic Con” – Lupita!
Black Panther cast is shaping up to be amazing – Michael B. Jorda and Lupita Nyong’o have joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Kevin Feige is on stage and wearing a hat featuring the new Marvel Studios log.
The new Marvel Studios logo was scored by Michael Giacchino!
“You’re going to go insane.” – host Chris Hardwick on what we’re about to see.
I’m a grown man, here to admit to all of you, that I got a little chocked up at the Marvel Studios highlight reel. (Also: new Marvel Studios logo!)
The Marvel Studios panel is about to begin!
