With all the force of a great typhoon, we’ve just heard the news that Walt Disney Studios has confirmed they’re making a live-action reimagining of Mulan will open in theaters November 2, 2018. Here’s everything we know about the movie so far:
The studio is launching a worldwide casting search for a Chinese actress to play Mulan.
Writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World) were brought on to rewrite a spec script from 2015 (they’re also working on the Avatar sequel).
According to the Hollywood Reporter “The Disney team saw the spec, by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, as a jumping-off point for a more nuanced and elaborate adaptation, combining the legendary Chinese ballad and the 1998 animated film.”
Jason Reed is attached to produce along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.
We cannot wait to see how the animated film is translated to live-action. Will there be songs? Will Mushu speak? Will Christina Aguilera record a single for the credits? Check this space for updates on Mulan.
