It’s official! The still untitled Han Solo Star Wars film just welcomed acclaimed actor, award-winning writer, and Grammy-nominated artist Donald Glover to the cast. The actor will be taking on the role of young Lando Calrissian, joining Alden Ehrenreich—who was previously confirmed for the role of Han Solo.
The highly anticipated film will show Lando (previously portrayed by Billy Dee Williams) in his early years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld. The events precede Lando’s iconic encounters with Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
We can’t wait to see how Glover and Ehrenreich bring the younger versions of the classic characters to life on the big screen. The Han Solo Star Wars film is set to release in 2018.
