With Pokémon Sun and Moon finally out in the wild today on the Nintendo 3DS, Disney XD and The Pokémon Company International teamed up to announce news that literally made all of our nerdy dreams come true. The companies have partnered for a multi-year animation distribution deal to make Disney XD the new home of Pokémon animated content. Considering the Pokémon franchise is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year, this announcement comes at the perfect time.
As part of the deal, the channel will not only be hosting a marathon of the previous seasons (900 episodes) and 15 movies, but will also debut the new animated feature Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel (on December 5), as well as the series’ 20th season: Pokémon The Series: Sun & Moon (on an unannounced date)! Check out the trailer below:
The official description in the video gives fans a taste of what Ash, Pikachu, and the rest of the gang will be up to this season:
“Ash and friends take their first steps into the Alola region in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon! Join them on their new adventure in this exciting new season.”
“During our 20-year celebration, fans’ appetite for Pokémon is at an all-time high, and The Pokémon Company International is thrilled to join forces with Disney XD as the new home for Pokémon animation in the US,” said Emily Arons, senior vice president at The Pokémon Company International. “Disney XD is the perfect way to deliver Pokémon animation to kids and fans across the country on its multiple platforms.”
