Stop everything and take in this amazing Star Wars news! Last year at Star Wars Celebration, we found out that Alden Ehrenreich would be playing a young Han Solo in a yet to be titled Star Wars story. We then found out that Donald Glover was cast as a young Lando. As if that didn’t make all of our dreams come true, we next found out that Emilia Clarke would also be joining the cast. This is already the cast of our dreams. Today, that dream is one step closer to becoming a reality as it was announced that production began on the film at Pinewood Studios in London on February 20! Take a look at this amazing pic of the cast and crew:
Here’s what we know so far: the film will explore the adventures of Han Solo and our favorite Wookiee, Chewbacca, before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including encounters with Lando Calrissian.
Along with Ehrenreich, Glover, and Clarke, the cast also includes Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. The film is co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who said the following about working on a Star Wars story:
Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.
The story is written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, Simon Emanuel and co-produced by Kiri Hart, Susan Towner and Will Allegra. Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin will executive produce. The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 25, 2018 and we. Cannot. Wait!
