Winds in the east brought us a magical first look at Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and it’s everything we’ve ever dreamed of. Last month production began on Mary Poppins Returns, the all new sequel to Disney’s 1964 classic Mary Poppins. The stellar cast also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda as a streetlamp lighter named Jack and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady. Today, we get to see what Mary Poppins will look like in the film, including her gorgeous costume and famous magical bag. The costumes for Mary Poppins Returns are designed by Sandy Powell, who also brought her magic to the live-action retelling of Cinderella, and we can already see the magic at work here:
Mary Poppins looks like she’s on Cherry Tree Lane in front of the familiar Banks family house, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! Perhaps the leaves on the ground are due to the winds in the east? Regardless, every single element of her costume is practically perfect in every way. From the pink hat, which is slightly tipped to the side in true Mary Poppins fashion, to the perfect coat and cape, to the magical, colorful bag that we’re sure has an endless supply of objects and fun. We are feeling nostalgia, we are feeling joy, we are feeling the need to start our countdown to see the film now.
Mary Poppins Returns is directed and produced by Rob Marshall, and in addition to Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Angela Lansbury, it also stars Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Dick Van Dyke! The film also introduces three new Banks children, played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, and newcomer Joel Dawson.
We absolutely cannot wait to see more of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins! How about you? Tell us in the comments!
