Today, Entertainment Weekly became our newest superhero by giving us a first look into Thor: Ragnarok with a few on-set pictures, plot details, and interviews. Check out the fun and colorful cover image below (along with some on-set photos!), and then keep reading to see what we learned!
1) Thor has short hair!
Chris Hemsworth on the haircut: “It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning. It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character.”
2) Cate Blanchett learned capoeira to perfect her part.
Blanchett learned this Brazilian martial art to play Hela, the goddess of death. In addition, she trained with stunt icon Zoë Bell. We can’t wait to see the surely impressive stunts she will get to perform!
3) Back to hair, though: Cate Blanchett looks drop-dead gorgeous with dark hair!
This dark color will suit her dark character perfectly. “She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box,” says Blanchett about Hela.
4) Plot-wise Thor gets sent to Sakaar where, let’s face it, he’s not a shining star.
He gets sent there after some kind of attack by Hela, and it is a place where “no one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst,” says Hemsworth. One familiar face he faces off with? The Hulk!
5) The movie will have a comedic tone.
Says director Taika Waititi: “We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it’s like a slight shift. ”
