Some of our favorite creative minds will be honored at D23 Expo on July 14, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! D23 Expo announced that it will be recognizing nine artists as Disney Legends, including the beloved Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher of Star Wars, Marvel master Stan Lee, and the extraordinary Oprah Winfrey. The honored Disney Legends will also include Gary Marshall, Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi, Manuel Gonzales, Wayne Jackson, and Julie Taymor!
Even in a galaxy far, far away celebrations are in order for Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill (a.k.a. Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker), who will now be forever known as Disney Legends. To Star Wars fans, these artists have been legends since the first Star Wars film came to theaters in 1977, but we’re thrilled they’ll now be officially receiving this highest Disney honor.
Stan Lee is the absolute best. As the ultimate Marvel comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer, his contributions to our daily lives are epic, and he is our hero. Proof: that time he taught us how to do the Baymax fist bump from Big Hero 6.
Talk show host, actress, producer, and can-do-anything super woman Oprah Winfrey will be co-starring in the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time (2018) and is the voice of Eudora in The Princess and the Frog. She has also starred in and produced numerous productions with ABC TV productions. Her legendary status is unquestionable!
This news is legendary! Recipients are chosen for their remarkable impact and contributions to The Walt Disney Company, and this year the Disney Legends Awards celebrates its 30th anniversary. We couldn’t be more excited for these amazing artists to join past Disney Legends such as Julie Andrews, Alan Menken, Robin Williams, and George Lucas (to name a few!)
The 2017 Disney Legends Award ceremony will take place on July 14 at the D23 Expo, and it will be hosted by none other than Disney Chairman and CEO, Bob Iger. Tickets can be purchased for the D23 Expo here. Sign us up!
