Picture yourself taking a boat ride down a calm, winding river in a lush and beautiful rainforest. Are you there? Great! Now add glowing, bioluminescent plants that light your way, and beautiful music that guides you down the river at a perfect pace, so you can take in all the sights. Otherworldly creatures, the likes of which you’ve never seen before, go along with you on your journey, seemingly seeking out the same thing you do.
We are, of course, describing the Na’vi River Journey attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort! We got the chance to experience the ride as part of a Pandora – The World of Avatar sneak peek, and we were truly in awe afterwards! Check out a glimpse of the ride: During Na’vi River Journey, guests float down the river searching for the Shaman of Songs, an incredibly lifelike, nearly ten-foot tall Na’vi woman that plays music and sings as they float by. Music and a connection with nature are so important to the Na’vi in the world of Pandora, and the ride really helps guests feel that connection.
We were so impressed by the Shaman of Songs: she moves more fluidly than any figure we have ever seen on a ride! Says Joe Rohde, Walt Disney Imagineering portfolio creative executive:
“The shaman is even more extraordinary than we expected. Her facial expressions, little movements in the cheek, tiny movements in the eyelid—each one of these carries an emotion she’s capable of conveying.”
Look at her go in the video below!
The Na’vi River Journey was a truly beautiful, ethereal experience, and we were absolutely stunned by it! We can’t wait to ride it again.
