The stage at the MTV Movie & TV Awards show last night was literally set on fire with an enchanting and truly epic opening number inspired by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The awards show, now honoring both movies and television, was hosted by actor and comedian Adam Devine, who led the elaborate and star-studded musical medley with gusto. It was a spectacular way to start the show! Even Josh Gad, who played LeFou in the recent live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast, joined the fun, as well as Hailee Steinfeld and Rebel Wilson. Take a look at this hilarious video:
The sets and costumes were amazing, and Rebel Wilson truly owned her Mrs. Pott’s outfit! Hailee Steinfeld played Belle to Adam Devine’s Beast, who wore horns and fur to complete his beastly look. Singing about the inclusion of television in the awards show, Devine and others sang the lyrics “Movies and TV” in place of the “Beauty and the Beast” lyrics. Other Beauty and the Beast songs were humorously rephrased including a spin on “Be Our Guest” and “Gaston.”
During the awards show, Beauty and the Beast was honored with the Movie of the Year award, and Emma Watson (who played Belle in the live-action film) was the first woman to win the newly non-gender based award for Best Actor in a Movie. So exciting!
