Yesterday, we got to witness the dedication ceremony for Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, and it was absolutely epic. Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company, and James Cameron, director of Avatar, introduced the land to an excited group of first-time guests. Iger and Cameron were later joined by some of the cast of the Avatar film, including Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, and Sam Worthington. We were among the lucky people to see the new land firsthand, and it was truly remarkable. Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE) experts wandered Pandora, teaching guests about the land and the Na’vi culture. Some of the best advice we got from the ACE experts was when we asked them what we should do first. Their answer: take a moment to stand still and really study the land, its sights and sounds, and the small details that make it so uniquely beautiful. By doing so, we saw countless views that inspired us and made us feel more connected to Pandora.
Here are some of the many moments that absolutely took our breath away:
The Floating Mountains
One of the first things you’ll see when you enter Pandora – The World of Avatar are the floating mountains. It’s a sight that will truly stop you in your tracks, in order to marvel at the beauty. Pictured above is the dedication ceremony underneath the floating mountains, and in the bottom left of the photo you’ll see Bob Iger and James Cameron, speaking to an awe struck crowd. We certainly took several moments to take in this sight.
The Flaska Reclinata
This plant-like element of Pandora is truly remarkable. An ACE expert guided us to interact with the Flaska Reclinata by gently placing our hand on its side. When we did, the surface glowed, and we were so delighted. We were giving it our energy, and it was sending good energy back to us. Definitely shed a few tears of joy during this moment.
All the Waterfalls
Sign us up for a view of these waterfalls all day every day. There is a lot of water around Pandora, and this was one of our favorite spots. The falls provide a light mist and an epic view.
Many treasures can be found in Windtraders, including Pandoran jewelry, candy, and even banshees! We got to meet our very own banshee and absolutely fell in love:
This. Candy. Is. So. Delicious. There are many, many Pandoran candies that deserve awards, and the rock candy pictured above is no exception. Not only is it perfect for a sweet treat, but it’s also beautiful and great for Instagram photos!
The Queue for Avatar Flight of Passage
Okay, first of all, we need to say that Avatar Flight of Passage is one of the best experiences we’ve ever had in our lives. In it, you’ll ride your very own banshee and explore Pandora. It is epic, inspiring, exhilarating, and made us feel connected to the land. We cried tears of joy throughout, and when we spoke to director James Cameron, he told us that he was also very moved by the experience, as were actors Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana. In fact, all of the Avatar cast we spoke to were just as in awe as we were. And, even before you go on that experience, the queue for Avatar Flight of Passage is absolutely incredible! Pictured above is one of the research lab areas that we could not take our eyes away from.
The Shaman of Songs on the Na’vi River Journey
You will encounter the Shaman of Songs on the Na’vi River Journey and she will amaze you. She is so lifelike, and conveys so many emotions, that we once again were brought to tears of joy. Just gorgeous.
The Bioluminescent Plants at Night
Pandora is amazingly beautiful during the day, and as soon as the sun starts to set, the bioluminescent plants are revealed, taking on a whole new life. Above is a vein pod and some other plants that glow in gorgeous colors all throughout Pandora. It’s truly a sight to behold.
The Bioluminescent Ground
It’s not just the plants that are bioluminescent! If you look down at the ground you’ll see glowing shapes everywhere you go. Proof that the details in Pandora – The World of Avatar cover every inch of the beautiful land.
