Beauty and the Beast Premiered Aboard Disney Cruise Line and We Can’t Wait to See It

Get ready, everyone, because it’s time to sail away from this provincial life and find adventure in the great wide somewhere—out in the ocean with Disney Cruise Line aboard the Disney Dream! We were able to see a sneak peek of the brand-new musical production of Beauty of the Beast earlier in the year, but now the tale as old as time has officially taken to the stage. Inspired by the live-action film while still weaving in everything we love about the animated classic, the Disney Cruise Line musical will bring the story to life in the 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre—combining classic storytelling elements and cutting-edge technology. Our favorite songs that we love to sing along to will be in the show, as well as new costumes and puppetry. The creative team includes director and choreographer Connor Gallagher (Tangled: The Musical) and writer Sara Wordsworth (Frozen, A Musical Spectacular), so it’s bound to be epic! Here are some more details about the show that we’re really looking forward to seeing on stage:The Set
Drawing inspiration from the live-action film, set designer Jason Sherwood and video designer Aaron Rhyne, who both worked on Disney Cruise Line’s Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, used the scenic motif of a music box to guide audiences through the story. On top of that, the lighting design by four-time Tony Award-nominated Japhy Weideman is sure to make every moment of the musical magical. We’re getting emotional just imagining all this right now.The Music
Matt Castle and Frank Galgano (Into the Woods) created the arrangements and orchestrations for the musical that we’ll be sure to be humming for days! The production features songs from the original soundtrack by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman—as well as Menken and lyricist Tim Rice’s “How Does a Moment Last Forever” and “Days in the Sun” from the live-action film. And “Be Our Guest”—perhaps the song we sing along to most passionately—is re-imagined for the stage as a full-fledged multi-course French dinner extraordinaire, complete with choreography and dazzling visual effects. We’ve never been more excited to try the grey stuff! The Puppets
Costume designer Sarah Cubbage and puppet designer Jeff Conover worked their magic to give life to the enchanted objects, including our fave characters like Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and Cogsworth. Hearing all this gives us life!

Beauty and the Beast has already debuted on the Disney Dream (which sails three and four-night cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida). We’re ready to embark on a musical voyage and fall in love with the enchanting fairytale all over again!

Music and lyrics for “Belle (Reprise)” were written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
