If you were among the many who saw Marvel Studios’ Black Panther this weekend, you were in good company. As it turns out, Will Smith, who is set to star in the upcoming reimagining of Aladdin in 2019, also saw the film, and left feeling inspired. Today, he posted a message to the cast and crew of the movie on his Instagram account, urging them in his caption to “Enjoy this Transcendent Moment,” and even including some words of advice he once received from Nelson Mandela! Check it out:
I want to share something that Nelson Mandela said to me. . He said, “With the type of fame that you have attained it is important when you encounter your fans that you — Reach Your Hand Out and let them Feel Your Flesh. You have to prove to them that you are REAL — because people can not aspire to anything they do not believe is Real.” . So I say to you, Congratulations! Enjoy this Transcendent Moment. Go into the streets… Touch them… Let them know that you are real! . @chadwickboseman, @michaelbjordan @lupitanyongo @letitiawright @danaigurira @danielkaluuya @im.angelabassett @andyserkis @winstoncduke @sterlingkbrown @rmorrison @therealstanlee @ludwiggoransson @iamruthecarter #blackpanther . With Pure Delight WILL :-)
In the video, Smith shouts out some cast members, as well as director Ryan Coogler.
Smith perfectly captures the sentiments of so many surrounding Black Panther, and the feeling appears to be mutual. Cast members Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan reacted with their own kind words for Smith.
“Thank you so much for this beyond generout shoutout sir!” said Nyong’o. “You have been an inspiration and guiding light for me.”
“Can’t wait to be able to work together someday!” responded Michael B. Jordan.
