In honor of Frozen Friday and Frozen on Broadway’s first performance last night, four of the twelve new songs in the show will be released every Friday starting today! Today’s song is a solo from Elsa (played by Caissie Levy) called “Monster,” and it gives us chills. Although we can’t sing it as soulfully as the Queen herself, we’ve already started memorizing the powerful lyrics. Watch Caissie Levy’s striking performance of the number at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall earlier this month, accompanied by other members of the Frozen on Broadway cast and orchestra:
We totally just got goosebumps, and it wasn’t from the cold. “Monster” will be performed in Act Two during Elsa’s moment of introspection atop the North Mountain, where she seeks isolation from a group of townspeople on their way to confront her. Listen to what Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have to say about Elsa’s impassioned lyrics:
These two are lyrical geniuses! The three other Frozen on Broadway songs that will be released on subsequent Fridays include a duet by Anna and Kristoff called “What Do You Know About Love?,” an interior monologue by Elsa called “Dangerous to Dream,” and an Act Two solo from Anna called “True Love.” Take a look at these charming pictures of the cast during their first curtain call: We cannot wait to hear these songs live in Frozen on Broadway! To prepare for that magical moment, we’re downloading “Monster” and playing it on repeat.
