We’re huge fans of Jon Favreau, and we love Star Wars, so today’s news has got us really excited! Previously, Favreau directed Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Jungle Book. He’s also directing the upcoming reimagining of The Lion King. Today, Lucasfilm announced on StarWars.com that Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is just as big a Star Wars fan as we are, and has even appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Here’s what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had to say about the announcement:
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
Favreau also had something to say, and it’s clear that he is just as excited as us:
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
There isn’t a date yet for this untitled Star Wars live-action series directed by Favreau, but we are sure to be refreshing our feeds to learn more!
