Everything We Know About Star Wars Resistance, a New Animated Series Coming to Disney Channel

Disney Channel is bringing us back to a galaxy far, far away! We found out this week that production has begun for Star Wars Resistance, an all-new animated series that explores the events prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We will be able to follow the adventures of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, when the series premieres this fall on Disney Channel in the United States (and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world)!

Our fave droid BB-8 will be joined by ace pilots, new characters, and appearances by some of our favorite Star Wars icons—including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, who will be voiced by Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, who play the roles in the live-action films. The voice cast also includes Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.

Star Wars Resistance was created by legendary Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), executive-produced by Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Justin Ridge (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), and Brandon Auman, and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels). With this group of talent, we’ve got a good feeling about this!

Filoni said about the inspiration behind the story:

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

We can’t wait to see this innovative take on Star Wars! Marc Buhaj, senior vice president of programming and general manager at Disney XD, added:

“Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. Star Wars Resistance will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor, and both new and familiar characters.”

Are you ready to jump into hyperspace? We sure will be when Star Wars Resistance comes to Disney Channel and Disney XD this fall!
