Over the weekend, we had the incredible opportunity to attend the first-ever Disney Channel Fan Fest event at Disneyland Resort. The casts from our favorite Disney Channel shows visited Disneyland and Disney California Adventure for an amazing day. There were events with the casts of Stuck in the Middle, Bunk’d, Andi Mack, and, of course, DuckTales! (“Woo-oo!”) One of the big events of the day was “DuckTales LIVE!,” a live read-through of a brand-new, never before seen (or heard) episode of DuckTales … with the cast in attendance! That’s right, Toks Olagundoye (Mrs. Beakley), Kate Micucci (Webby Vanderquack), Bobby Moynihan (Louie Duck), Ben Schwartz (Dewey Duck), Danny Pudi (Huey Duck), and David Tennant (Scrooge McDuck) were all at Disneyland to read a brand new episode of the show, live!
And, lucky ducky you, the whole reading was streamed on Facebook! You can watch it right here:
The reading kicked off with some surprisingly difficult DuckTales trivia (do YOU know the name of Scrooge McDuck’s plane?? Answer: The Sunchaser) before diving right into the read-through. The cast was introduced to roaring applause, and plenty of laughs, and then the “show” began! From the beginning, it felt like we were in the recording studio for an episode of the show. There were ad-libs, jokes, playful banter, and a rogue keytar. It was truly amazing.
Everyone in the cast was having a great time. The episode took place during a surprise birthday party for Scrooge, so Dewey naturally acted as the DJ (aka DJ Daft Duck). This meant that comedy mastermind and possible literal angel Ben Schwartz was given a keytar filled with pre-recorded, auto-tuned lines. As you can imagine, this led to endless amounts of hilarious moments –– 90% of which were not in the script.
Since this was a LIVE episode, some of the cast had to play dual roles. Toks hung up Mrs. Beakley’s apron to play crime boss Ma Beagle (filling in with her best impression of character actress Margo Martindale), Kate voiced the clumsy and calamitous Black Arts Beagle, Ben voiced the wealthy and egotistical Mark Beaks, and David became the first Scottish actor ever to voice Scrooge’s arch-nemesis Flintheart Glomgold.
By the end of the episode (which involved an exploding cake, an evil spirit, noisemakers, and a ghost butler), the audience was enraptured by everyone on stage. It was a blast and it flew by—you might say it was a duck blur! The episode was as hilarious and action-packed as you would expect from DuckTales, but getting to see how the cast interacted together and watching them deliver their lines was truly incredible and a once in a lifetime experience we won’t soon forget.
After the read-through, the DuckTales cast visited Radiator Springs Racers and captured this incredible photo that we’re probably going to change all of our computer backgrounds to:
After the ride, we got to talk to the cast about their characters (which you can see in the @ohmydisney Instagram Story!) and David Tennant blessed our lives with this unbelievable boomerang:
To close out the day, the cast greeted their fans and did a poster signing for some lucky fans in attendance. It was an amazing day made even more special by the quack-ups provided by the cast of DuckTales.
