Last weekend we were legitimately dazzled and brought near tears by Disneyland Forever— the new fireworks show at Disneyland celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the Park. It’s a magical experience, featuring projections and plenty of pyrotechnics. AND you can see it from multiple locations in the Park. Whether you’re in Main Street or Rivers of America, the new fireworks are an immersive experience. But enough talk. We’re going to show you some of our favorite moments from the show (and by favorite we mean the moments where we for sure almost cried) (and by almost we mean that we were ugly crying). Get ready for some feelings.
1. Orange Groves
The fireworks begin with a beautiful tribute to the land that Walt bought to build the Park – orange groves! Our nostalgia meter is always set to high, so this moment of past and future connecting was nothing short of epic.
2. Step in Time from Mary Poppins
Not only is Bert being projected ONTO the Matterhorn, but Dick Van Dyke recorded new voice over to go along with this portion of the show. Cue waterworks.
3. Lanterns from Tangled
At this point all someone has to say is the word “lanterns” for us to instantly get butterflies in out stomachs and believe in true love. So when we saw the lanterns floating up through Sleeping Beauty castle, it’s fair to say that we were a complete mess.
4. Circle of Life from The Lion King
The entire audience gasped and then cheered when the castle went red and the iconic yellow sun began to rise. It was such a moment, let us tell you.
5. Nemo’s Journey
During the show, the Matterhorn is transformed into Mt. Wannahockaloogie and Nemo attempts a daring swim through the air. We were holding our breath the entire time. Look at all the fire!
6. Heffalumps and Woozles
There’s an entire sequence devoted to these, the stuff of nightmares. But far from making us tremble under the proverbial covers, we had huge smiles as we watched the castle transform.
7. Sleeping Beauty’s Sparkly Castle
The newly-updated castle looks beautiful during the day, but man, it looks gorgeous at night. It shimmers and shines and is magic personified.
9. Walt on the Castle
Seeing Walt projected onto the castle, watching him walk through those gates was a moment we’ll never forget.
10. The Finale
We’ve seen many a fireworks show, but as evidenced above, this one is literally the biggest and brightest.
