It’s that time of year again. The trees are lit. Jolly tunes are caroling through the airwaves. Hot cocoa is being sipped. And folks of all ages are gathering together. It’s official: The most wonderful time of the year is officially here!
At Oh My Disney, we don’t just like the holidays. We absolutely LOVE them. And if there’s one thing we can agree on, it’s that there’s simply no place like Walt Disney World to celebrate. Here are our top seven reasons why:
1. Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration is the merriest party in town!
Craving a party? Well consider yourself invited to some fa-la-la-lovely festivities at Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration in Magic Kingdom. In this show-stopping musical, Mickey and his pals throw an epic holiday get-together and invite some very special guests to join the fun! Personal highlights from our experience of watching the show were seeing Daisy lead the group in a song about texting and the Three Caballeros singing “Feliz Navidad” in Spanish and Portuguese!
But, by far, the show-stopping performance of the night was Clarabelle Cow’s diva-tastic rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” You know how when you’ve witnessed something so incredible, so amazing, and so downright brilliant, it can be hard to put into words just how you actually feel? Well, that pretty much sums up our sentiment about this performance. Consider us deeply, deeply moo-ved.
2. The festive fun never stops at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!
Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration is just one of many amazing holiday experiences one can expect at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. From merry decorations to nighttime delights, this Magic Kingdom festival of fun truly has something for everyone.
While the new entertainment shines bright, you can’t go wrong with timeless classics. Make sure to wave hello to the gingerbread men and toy soldiers parading down Main Street in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade. And of course, no holiday festivity would be complete without some Frozen friends, lightning up the castle in A Frozen Holiday Wish. Last, but not least, don’t forget to check out the Holiday Wishes fireworks show, where you might even find yourself shedding a tear or two. (We only say this because it may or may not have happened to us.)
3. You won’t want to miss Once Upon a Time!
Inspired by a similar show at Tokyo Disneyland, Once Upon a Time makes its U.S. debut at the Magic Kingdom this holiday season and is truly a beauty to behold. The show centers around Mrs. Potts telling Chip a bedtime story, featuring scenes from Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, and more classic fairy tales. The show is crafted with such love, care, and that signature attention-to-detail that Disney does best! Our jaws literally dropped seeing Peter Pan’s daring flight through London, as well as Beast and Belle’s romantic chandelier dance. We dare you not to feel those “happily ever after” wistful feels after watching this show!
4. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! is designed to dazzle!
Delight in the holiday season and relive fond Disney movie memories at Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, the new nighttime spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Join Prep and Landing duo Wayne and Lanny, as they embark on a merry mission through unforgettable scenes from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Up, and more, all the while searching for the one-and-only St. Nick.
Hardcore Disney fans will appreciate nods to The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and delight in the many hidden Mickeys sprinkled throughout the show—which show director Tom Vazzana declined to reveal the location of. (What can we say? We tried!)
From a technological perspective, the show wows with fireworks, lasers, snow, and projection technology bathing yuletide imagery across the Chinese Theater. At some points throughout the show, the lasers hit the falling snow just right, creating a glittery-like spectacle that we can only describe as pure magic.
5. There’s no better place to do your holiday shopping than Disney Springs!
Making a list, checking it twice, and getting your friends and family something nice is a piece of cake at Disney Springs! The newly renovated center hub is decked out for the holidays with a diverse selection of clothes and goods as well as one-of-a-kind Disney gifts. (Be sure to check out the Mickey chocolate bar at The Ganachery and the Mickey soaps at Basin!) And when hunger strikes, mosey over to Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming for the best darn fried chicken we’ve ever tasted!
6. Disney Springs at night is an absolute delight!
When the sun goes down, the party only continues at Disney Springs. “Any given night, we’ve got at least 25 different entertainment acts happening throughout property for free. During the holidays, we plus that up even more,” says Disney Springs marketing manager Darcy Clark. In addition to live music, there’s also carolers, snowmen, snowflakes, stilt walkers, and of course, meet-and-greets with the one and only, Santa!
Finally, you’ll want to check out the Christmas Tree Trail, which features fifteen Imagineer-designed trees, each inspired by a Disney character or story. From The Muppets to Mary Poppins to Frozen to The Jungle Book, there’s truly a tree for every Disney fan. Be sure to check it out and let us know which one is your favorite!
After a busy day of festivities, there’s nothing we find more magical than taking a hot shower and curling up in a comfy bed. We like staying at one of the on-property resorts so we can literally collapse into bed seconds after being in the Parks. (And if you’re a hardcore Disney Parks fan like us, staying at a Resort hotel means also taking advantage of complimentary MagicBands and extra magic hours for max Park enjoyment. Yeah, we’ve come prepared.)
7. Walt Disney World holiday magic is simply timeless.
It’s as true now as it was in the past. Walt Disney World is simply the most magical place to be this holiday season. We think Disney Parks Marketing Manager Ramit Kapoor put it best when he shared the following story: “My favorite experience coming as a kid to Walt Disney World was going, kind of like how it was now. The air’s a little nippy and you’re in this moment with your family, having hot cocoa and looking at the beautiful castle. To come here now and experience that with my own family is so special. To me it’s moments like this that I think guests are going to really enjoy from all over the world.”
With so many new things to behold and beloved traditions making their return, there’s never been a better time to plan a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort, But hurry! The holiday magic won’t last forever.
